Fresh Green Bean Casserole Recipe

This green bean casserole has fresh green beans, a creamy sauce, and crunchy, golden-brown onions. Without mushroom soup or bacon, it's easy to make.

– 2 cups green beans  – ½ cup fried onion – 1 cup grated cheddar – 1 tablespoon soy sauce – 1 cup milk – 2 tablespoon all purpose flour – 2 tablespoon unsalted butter – ⅓ teaspoon salt or more to taste – ⅓ teaspoon pepper – ⅕ teaspoon nutmeg

Preheat the oven to 370 degrees Fahrenheit. Next, add the all-purpose flour and melt the butter, whisking constantly for two minutes.

Blend well after adding the spices and salt. Add more milk if the sauce seems too thick and stir some more.

Once cooled, the sauce will get even thicker. In a mixing bowl, mix together green beans, ⅔ cup grated cheddar, and most of the fried onion.

Cover the casserole with aluminium foil for the majority of the baking process to stop the topping from browning too quickly.

Once the casserole has finished baking, top it with the remaining cheese and crispy onions and bake it for a further 10 minutes, or until the top is golden brown.
